Unit 61 Mule Deer Hunts
It’s no question that unit 61 has proven itself as a top trophy producing unit.
We recommend mule deer hunting either 3rd season or muzzle loader season.
3rd season is often a low country hunt with a lot of time spent covering country looking for bucks to come out of the wood works and chase does.
Muzzle loader season puts us in the higher country glassing for bachelor groups as they feed in open pockets of timber. Hunters can expect bucks 165-180 with several bigger bucks being taken every year. The terrain is moderate in this unit allowing us to accommodate hunters of varying physical abilities. Lodging on this hunt will be based out of our main camp located in this unit.
Unit 62 Deer Hunts
Unit 62 is another really good unit for harvesting a respectable deer for the points required to draw. Bordering unit 61 it offers the same quality genetics and a little more diverse terrain to hunt them in. A lot of locals say the bigger deer prefer the 62 side of the mountain and we would tend to agree. The downfall to this unit is, the higher number of elk hunters that are also on the unit. As a result tags are easier to draw. Fortunately, the deer reside in different areas from the majority of the elk allowing us to avoid some of the pressure during our hunt.
Unit 40 Deer Hunts
This high desert plateau holds some great mule deer hunting and is likely one of the best options in the state to harvest a respectable deer for the points required to draw. It’s not particularly known for holding giants but it currently has a healthy herd and respectable age class.
Its open country allows us to glass and efficiently hunt the deer in the area. So be prepared to spend a lot of time using binoculars and spotting scopes while hunting here.

Prepare for the Shot
One of the most important things you can do to to prepare for your hunt is to be ready for the shot. I highly recommend you have both a Bi-pod and a shooting Tri-pod. Elk country changes quickly from timber and oak brush to open parks and steep basins, so hunters should be comfortable with more than one field position. A bi-pod provides a fast, stable prone rest, while a tri-pod can clear vegetation and steady the rifle on uneven ground; some elk hunts justify packing both.
New for 2026 you can jump over to our gear list and product page and you can buy the products we recommend directly off this website at a discounted price.
We are also now working with an in house gunsmith and can help you get setup with your next custom hunting rifle. We have several options and price points available. Give me a call and we can discuss all your options.
We advise clients to be prepared for 300-500 yard shots.
