Each year one of the more common questions asked by our clients is what rifle and caliber do we recommend. In todays world the options are endless and there really isn’t a right answer. What you are most comfortable with is likely the best answer to this question. Due to the various types of terrain we encounter. We recommend clients be prepared to shoot 300-600 yards. This is often a good bit further than a lot of guys are used to and can be an intimidating thought at first.

We feel with the right rifle/optic set up. These shots are more than realistic for anyone with moderate experience in shooting. I’m not saying everyone needs to go and buy a custom rifle because that’s not the case. But I also don’t recommend showing up with grandpa’s old 30-06 and a fixed 4 power scope. I have seen this and other similar set ups leave clients disappointed on their hunt of a lifetime.
Most factory rifles from today’s top companies are more than accurate enough to get the job done. Something as simple as an optics upgrade may be all you need. Most importantly we recommend you have optics’s with an adjustable turret system to help you accurately compensate your bullet drop and windage. Next you need enough magnification to clearly see the animals vitals at these distances. There are several companies who make just what you are looking for. From an economy standpoint we have had great luck with the Vortex and Leupold lineups. If you’re looking for the best of the best, companies like Night Force and Swarovski come in at the top of the game.
As professional guides, we have personal guns that are available for clients who don’t feel comfortable using their own set up. If you are an avid big game hunter with several hunts in your future, perhaps a new rifle has been on your mind? We suggest taking a close look at viking Armament.

I highly recommend you give their folding mechanical chassis a serious look. You will quickly see why this type of set up is becoming the top choice for big game hunters all over the world. At first glance they may seem like a basic AR platform and to a small degree they are. On the other hand they are some of the most comfortable, accurate, and easy to pack rifles on the market. Their folding butt stock makes this rifle a delight to pack around. The days of snagging branches above your head or scraping rocks with the buttstock as you work through ledgy/ rocky country are over. These compact long rang rifles easily fold and store in your back pack. Leaving you with both hands free and a lot less likely to snag and bump on objects you encounter in the outdoors.
